Rodney Smith would have to be one of my favourite photographers. I'm currently looking for some prints to frame for the walls of my new apartment, and think one of his would be perfect. Although I'm naturally a rather indecisive person, and considering this post took me an hour alone to curate, I can't begin to imagine how long it would take to decide on one that I'd stare at every day of my life. Good thing I don't have four thousand dollars to spend on one...

Ever since I saw an episode of Nigella where she comes home a little boozed at 2am and whips together some granola for when she wakes up (she also makes an amazing bacon sandwich at the same time... love her), I've been obsessed with the idea of making home made granola. So when I saw love and olive oil post a Granola recipe the other day, I knew it was meant to be.

Aaaand the first thing I bake in my new kitchen is... Carrot Cake (courtesy of 101 Cookbooks). The hardest part was trying to refrain from eating the cream cheese icing while waiting forever for the cake to cool. Cheese makes me a little unruly.

I had the intense urge to bake something gingery this week and the results were these wonderful Sparkling Ginger Chip cookies (via 101 Cookbooks). I was hesitant, at first, when I saw the array of intriguing ingredients required (or "indie food ingredients", as my housemate Dang termed them), but alas, the combination of Coles, and my non-hungover lateral thinking got me all the molasses and fancy sugar that I needed. The results are amazing. I will definitely bake these again... And again.

If you haven't already seen The Artist you really must. And at the cinema too. It's not often that you get to see silent films any more, and this is a stunning interpretation of what was all the rage in the 1920s. With breathtaking cinematography and amazing performances, it's definitely one of my favourites of this year so far. And there's an adorably talented little jack russell... I can't say no to pooches.

I'm rather partial to chocolate and salt being together as one... so last night i made these Bittersweet Chocolate chip cookies with sea salt from a Cooking Channel recipe I happened to stumble upon. This iphone photo does not do them any justice, but I'm going to take the fact that they were gone by lunch time at work as a good sign. I'll make these again for sure.

I've recently become enchanted with mixing prints. I'm not sure if it's the idea of getting to wear my favourite stripes, polka dots and florals all at once, or whether it's the fact that my morning bus stop is on the doorstep of the Brisbane city Gorman store. Either way, when I saw Gorman's A/W 2012 collection I was in awe. Either I'm going to have to start catching another bus in the morning, or decoupage a wall with my credit cards.

I'm a big fan of the perfectly dreamy music that Memoryhouse creates. In fact there was a time when I listened to their EP on repeat for days. I honestly didn't think that I could love them anymore, until I discovered their website a few years back, and learnt that singer, Denise Nouvion, is actually a photographer who captures equally as dreamy images.

This week The Fox Is Black has collaborated with Denise and is releasing a wallpaper each day showcasing her beautiful photography. Definitely worth checking out!

I'm counting down the days until Memoryhouse's new album The Slideshow Effect is released on February 28 via Sub Pop Records.

I think I could get used to this baking caper... it's somewhat therapeutic. Although, I did wake up feeling all kinds of wonderful after sleeping so well on my brand new mattress. mattress + baking = tranquility... add tea in there too.

This week I was eager to make French Toast Muffins, a recipe from Sprinkle Bakes that I've bee pondering over for a month or so. These are super easy to make! I had my mixer out ready before realising I didn't even need it. Win. also, how can anything that's doused in maple syrup go wrong? you tell me.

So I've made the unusual decision to actually try to achieve one of my new year's resolutions this year. Well, actually, I purposely made my resolutions ridiculously hard to fail this time, but anyway, I've decided to challenge myself to bake something each week. So why not document it right here.

This week I delved into the world of flavoured shortbread. I found this delightful recipe for Rosemary and pine nut shortbread at 101 Cookbooks (one of the best food blogs around, I believe) and ended up with delicious cookies that somewhat resembled the heart and pooch cookie cutters I bought this morning. I think next time I'll freeze the dough shapes for a bit before baking, but today i had cafes to be at, and no time. Okay for week one i guess.

belle and i challenged ourselves to take a photo of each other for every day of february. i've been taking photos of belle for four years now, and she's extremely photogenic, so i've never thought that this task would be too difficult. i guess the whole idea is forced creativity. at times we've woken up with an idea for a photo, but other times we've remembered that we haven't taken a photo at quarter twelve at night, and had to peel our pyjama-clad selves away from the current buffy episode we've been watching to find props around the house to photograph the other with, in order to avoid photographing our faces. Either way, at the half way point, i've found this challenge to be really interesting in terms of spontaneity. Some of the least planned shots have actually come out looking the best.
